George Costa RS
George received his real estate license in 2006 and has been working in the industry on a part-time basis. Having been raised on Kaua’i in Hanalei and Wailua Houselots, he attended Kapa’a & Wilcox Elementary schools, as well as the Kamehameha Schools and graduated from Kapa’a High School. He went on to attend Pacific University in Forest Grove, Oregon and received his bachelor’s degree in Business Administration. Returning home to Kaua’i, it didn’t take long for George to start his Visitor Industry career at the Coco Palms Resort. With world-renown hotelier, Grace Guslander as his mentor, George rose through the ranks over a 13-year period holding various positions including Night Auditor, Assistant, Reservations, Front Office manager positions, then finally as the Director of Rooms. After Grace retired in 1987, George left Coco Palms in 1988 to become the General Manager of the Islander on the Beach Hotel. As a 33-year veteran of the Visitor Industry, George has managed several Hawaii resorts including the Kiahuna Plantation, Pono Kai, Royal Kahana, Embassy Ka’anapali, The Point at Poipu and Hilton Kauai Beach Resort. George left the Visitor Industry in 2009 when he was appointed by Mayor Bernard P. Carvalho, Jr.as the Director for the Office of Economic Development. With Tourism, Agriculture, Energy, Sustainability, Film and Workforce Development and Small Business responsibilities, George is very engaged with business and community leaders and organizations throughout Kaua‘i. With a sincere interest to help our island community, George is associated with Kaua‘i Visitors Bureau, Kaua‘i Chamber of Commerce, Kaua‘i County Farm Bureau, Kaua‘i High School Academy of Hotel & Tourism, and the Kaua‘i Native Hawaiian Chamber of Commerce.
